When was the last time you went to a museum? How did you feel? Did you enjoy it, or did you leave feeling confused?
Problem/ Insight:
In an age where digital interactions often overshadow real-world exploration, fewer young people are visiting traditional museums and losing touch with the physical world around them.
Concept & Design:
I designed to implement the idea of the "city as a museum" on TFL (Transport for London) bus route (390), using storytelling through sound design to reveal the layers of history hidden in these neighbourhoods of London.
Project Overview:
This is an immersive audio on the 390 bus route, a time-travel adventure through conversations between a 390 bus driver and I, featuring characters from the past and sharing their stories with the buildings we pass by.
This project shows how the shifting needs of Londoners have shaped this ever-changing, constantly evolving city. Accompanying the audio, a playful wayfinding map completes the museum-on-the-go experience, try to spot the characters on the map!
Without further ado, hop on this ride, and let's explore this city together!
This illustrated map features characters from the audio story. The black-and-white sections represent the past, while the coloured characters show the present.
Wayfinding map
Situating the map at bus stop
Maps are placed at bus stops to promote the experience and assist passengers in navigating through the story.
Bus seat cover design
The seat cover designs will be printed on the back of the bus seats. These characters can be found throughout the audio story. When passengers sit down, it creates an optical illusion that connects them with the past, reminding us that by living in yesterday's tomorrow, we are each creating our own documented histories.
