Fish Without Water®

This installation depicts a fish trapped in a leaking plastic bag, symbolizing feelings of hopelessness and powerlessness.

Project Overview

Originally responding to China’s "covid-zero" policy, the project captures the broader emotions of confinement and helplessness many experiences, extending beyond its initial context, resonating with anyone who feels trapped or powerless in their own circumstances.

Problem

A satirical installation was created, showing a fish daydreaming of freedom. It serves as a metaphor for internal struggles, encouraging resilience and solidarity for those facing similar feelings of being trapped.

The Politics of Design

by Ruben Pater

  • This book explores how design choices—colours, symbols, typography, and imagery—carry cultural, political, and social implications. It challenged me to think about how design can shape perceptions, reinforce stereotypes, or drive inclusivity.

These great examples show how context matters in design decisions and emphasizing ethical responsibility.

I'm always curious to explore further!
